4 Steps To Finding How Acupuncture Can Help You

By: Jay Anderson

Acupuncture has been used for more than 2,000 years and originates from China. Today it is now one of the oldest and one of the most commonly used medical procedures used in the world. However, although it has been around for over 2,000 years it did not actually become well known until the early 1970's and has gained ever growing popularity in the US as people have become aware of its success.

Acupuncture requires the insertion of small, thin but solid metal needles into particular areas of a person's body. Then once the needles they will be manipulated either by the hands of the person carrying out the treatment (the acupuncturist) or through the use of electrical stimulation.

If you are considering using acupuncture to treat a particular health condition, it is vital that you seek the services of a reputable and well-qualified acupuncture doctor or acupuncturist. If you do not then they may actually cause you more pain rather than helping to relieve the condition from which you are suffering. Just by inserting the needles incorrectly or into the wrong part of the body can actually prove totally ineffective. So you need to spend some time finding the right person to carry out your acupuncture treatment and below we offer some steps to help you do so.

Step 1 - Ideally if you can get hold of a list of all those who are qualified to carry out this form of treatment close to where you live. Your doctor or health authority may have such a list. But a great place to look for such people is online as well. There are plenty of sites, which offer details on practitioners who are qualified to carry out acupuncture treatment.

Step 2 - After looking through the list that you have got, you should select three or four names from it and give them a call. Find out if they provide any kind of free consultation and if so consider taking up their offer. By doing this you will get a much better idea of their capabilities and whether you feel comfortable with them or not.

Step 3 - As well as meeting them, it is a good idea you find out what training and qualifications they have gained. Try to select only those that either have attained a degree in Chinese Medicine or have attained the qualifications to work as a medical acupuncturist. It is best if you can also look for those who have gained their state licensure exam, which allows them to legally work as an acupuncturist as well.

Step 4 - Along with knowing what qualifications and training they have, it is vital you learn about their experience as well. You especially need to know if they have had experience of treating your particular condition, as this will ensure that you are getting the right kind of treatment from them.

Above we have provided you with some steps to help ensure that you find and employ the right kind of acupuncture specialist in order to treat your condition. Just by carrying out some research and comparing, what each of them has to offer will ensure that you get the best treatment possible.
