Bed & Breakfast Decor

By: Patti Rob

Owning a bed & breakfast means you have the chance to operate a wonderful business. While you definitely need to offer excellent prices, customer service, and great food, you will also need to pay attention to how you decorate your bed & breakfast. People are going to pay attention to how the outside of it looks when they drive by. If they are looking at your bed & breakfast online they will take the time to review the pictures of both the inside and the outside of it.

You want your bed & breakfast to appear to be warm and inviting. If people aren't happy with what they initially see, it can discourage them from making the reservation. The outside of your bed & breakfast is the first thing they are going to see. Choose warm colors that compliment each other. If the paint is worn or it is peeling you need to take the time to have it redone.

There are plenty of things you can incorporate to the front of your bed & breakfast to make it enticing for guests. These things aren't going to cost you very much to implement either. For example you can decorate the porch with some tables and chairs for them to relax in. You can offer a yard full of green grass or a terrific landscaping design.

Try to offer some focal points in the front yard of your bed & breakfast. Your options will depend on how much room you have. You may decide to install a fountain or a small pond. If you have a green thumb you can grow beautiful flowers as well. Find out which types grow best in your area. Fresh cut flowers in a vase on the kitchen table in the morning will be very appealing to your guests.

Too many bed & breakfast owners make the mistake of over decorating the inside of the business. If you have too many items on display it is hard to focus on them all. It can easily make the guests feel overwhelmed. At the same time it can make the place look smaller than it really is. Take your time to offer rooms with walls that are painted inviting colors. Look for pictures that are very appealing such as those of the ocean, waterfalls, lighthouses, and others that people tend to relate with relaxing and calm.

There are subtle changes you can make to the decor of your bed & breakfast without a huge investment. For example you can change from standard drapes and curtains that aren't appealing to those that are more colorful or offer a softer feeling for the room. You want the guests to feel completely at ease in their room of the bed & breakfast.

Think about the theme you want to offer throughout the bed & breakfast. Everything needs to be a good match with the other items around it. This takes a good eye for home decorating so if you aren't sure ask others to give you their input. You can even consider hiring a professional designer to help you get everything in place.

Feel free to express your own ideas with your bed & breakfast. However, you need to make sure they are going to be a hit with potential guests. When they drive by and look at it, they need to want to see the rest of what you have to offer. As they are looking at the pictures online of the bed & breakfast, they need to feel like it is somewhere they would gladly spend their time while in the area.
