How To Find A Legitimate Online Home Based Business

By: Kelly Yuile

Unfortunately, in the online world, there are a number of people out there who just want to take your money without providing you with any real service or support. That is why no matter what the investment, you need to be careful when choosing an online venture. Here are some points to help you avoid those scams and find a business that really works.

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True Then It Probably Is

Don't take this as been negative, however when something has a great sales pitch it often lacks substance. A good business opportunity will be far more detailed in its approach over that of trying to sway you emotionally.

You must also be realistic, I mean, if they say you can invest $10 and within a week you will be earning $1,000, one would have to ask, "If it is that easy why isn't everybody doing it"?

I am here to tell you that an online business needs to be treated just as seriously as an offline business and it requires just as much work, at least initially.

Do Some Background Research

Take the website domain and run it through Alexa.com. Look at the traffic numbers and which sites are linking into it. If the site has very little traffic then it could very well be a scam. Secondly, this is also the case if the site is very new. Look to see if there are any reviews on Alexa.com for that site.

Visit Home Based Business Forums.

Forums in this instance can provide a wealth of information. In fact, if looking for an online business you should join some of these forums and contribute to the community.

This will help you in multiple ways, one is people will talk about their experience relative to any given opportunity. Secondly if you do find a good business opportunity you could later discuss it on the forums and have link back to it in your signature box and get paid a commission for referring people to that said opportunity.

The key here is to visit a number of forums so that you get a broader base of information that will enable you to see if any pattern is evolving, either negatively or positively.

Contact The Promoter

This can really be an eye opener. If they provide you with pre-canned answers that lack detail then avoid it like the plague. If they don't answer your e-mail at all, then drop it like a hot potato.

Always remember, when people are in it just for the money, they tend to do the least possible for the greatest return. People who love what they do, do everything they can to make sure everyone and everything is taken care of.

Check The Scam Sites.

Check on the scam sites to see if the opportunity in question is a scam. You can also Google the promoters name and see what information comes up.

To conclude, the good old saying holds true. "Wise men say only fools rush in" Do each opportunity due diligence. Understand that any business is not a one hundred yard sprint; it is more like a marathon. You will need to pace yourself and invest time and resources to make it work.
