How to Buy Cars at Cheap Used Car Auctions

By: Davion Wong..

Cheap used car auctions are the right places to go if you are looking for a cheap car or are operating a business selling used vehicles. But for the first-timer, it can be quite daunting. These few tips below are going to guide you on how to buy cars at these auctions.

1. Choose cheap used car auctions organized by the government or the police.

The reason why you go for these is that the quality of the cars is good and fit for use. But as with all used cars, there are bound to be some minor issues like scratches. However, if you go along with cheap used car auctions, you can be assured of higher quality.

2. Arrange for Preliminary Inspection

As a norm, all cheap used car auctions have a preliminary inspection period, when a potential buyer can have a look at the vehicles and assess their condition. If possible, bring along a professional mechanic, who can enlighten you on the engine condition and other factors you should keep in mind. It is especially important, because all the vehicles sold at these auctions can't be returned or exchanged.

3. Get Ready to Do Your Own Research

It is important to conduct your mini research when you find a vehicle you like at the auctions. Check out its ID number on Car Fax for a full history report that can reveal details which are otherwise not obvious to you. You may want to find out what price a similar make and model would fetch in the car dealership to estimate its worth and how much you should bid for.

4. Determine your Maximum Bids

It is equally important to determine the ceiling of your bid before entering the cheap used car auctions. Your maximum bid must fall within your budget and it must be something you are comfortable with. This also helps to put a brake in case you start to engage in a bidding competition with other bidders. Take into account that you can sometimes get away with a car with 95% slashed off its value, and also expenses such as vehicle registration fee, inspection fee, buyer's premium and other fees.

5. Use Low-Competition Cheap Used Car Auctions

The rationale is that most people work during weekdays and hence, cannot be at the auctions. Logically, the lesser competition, the lower are the bids. So you can actually drive home a sports convertible at ridiculously low prices. Out of the way places in some tucked away towns are great places to find great bargain vehicles as well.

All because of cheap used car auctions; it is now possible for anyone to drive home their BMWs, Mercedes, and Porsches at depressed prices. Many car dealers are fattening their wallets from reselling the vehicles they bought at the auctions. As long as you know where the used auto auctions are, with the information you just picked up, you can now grab hold of a car of your choice.
