How to find the best college apartments in Grand Forks

By: UM

Finding the right apartment always takes time. If you are a college student, you have specific expectations for the next place you rent, and the choices you make are important and difficult. We decided to offer you some tips on finding the best apartments for college students in Grand Forks, N.D.

1. Seek help from a professional property manager.
Christa is our Grand Forks property manager for Marcil Management. Give her a call
at 701.772.9597 or email her at christa@marcilgroup.com. Christa knows all the details of all our units and will help you find the apartment best for you. Feel free to ask her any questions or to ask for a tour of any of our Grand Forks apartments. Our Grand Forks property management office is at 715 N. 42nd St.

2. Tour several buildings.
If you look at two or three apartment buildings or at least two or three different apartments within a building, it's easy to compare prices, layouts and amenities. That way you can make the best decision and find the apartment that makes sense to you as a college student. Consider whether you want to be within walking distance from campus and what stores and parks you'd like nearby. For example, our Park Place Apartments at 715 North 42nd St. in Grand Forks, are within walking distance from UND and less than two miles from the Columbia Mall. Also consider our Grandview Apartments, which are just a mile south of UND. Our St. John's Block Apartments are about two miles from UND and two miles from Northwest Technical College.

3. Figure out what you are willing to pay and stick to it.
Know what you want to spend for your apartment. If you are going to have roommates, make sure you all agree on the price range. Even if you go out of your price range for rent by just a hundred dollars a month, you might also end up paying higher deposits, utilities and other fees. If you have questions about any of our rates, call Christa at 701.772.9597 or email her at christa@marcilgroup.com. Rent at our Southview Apartments starts at $585 per month. There is no application fee or deposit. Over at our Grandview Apartments, rent starts $525 per month.

4. Look at apartments with your roommates.
It's better to involve your roommates when you are choosing the next place to live. That way everyone can voice his or her opinion on the location, layout, cost, amenities, etc. One roommate might ask questions the other didn't even think of.

5. Plan for the next year.
You might want to keep the same apartment through your college career or even after you graduate. Each of our apartments have one-year leases so you can renew them after a year or move to a new location if needed.

6. Safety features are important.
Our Park Place Apartments require background checks on all residents and they have a 24-hour emergency service. Background checks are also require at our Grandview Apartments, and people enter our Southview Apartments through a controlled entrance. Our St. John's Block Apartments located downtown also require background checks and offer a 24-hour emergency service.
