Make Your Bathroom Vanity Demand Attention

By: Alex Zidan

Believe it or not, there is a certain science to choosing a bathroom vanity that is going to correctly represent the rest of your home as well as your restroom. The mirror in the bathroom is one of the things your guests are guaranteed to notice because they will by habit check their appearance in the mirror before leaving the restroom. You may not think that this item holds much weight, out of all your decorative items, but as you read you will see that is not the truth.

Your restroom is the one spot in your home that your guests are going to visit alone, which means that they will not be distracted by conversation when observing the way you decided to decorate it. Plus, since as mentioned, checking your appearance while washing your hands is a habit, the bathroom vanity may be the most acknowledged wall decoration that you own throughout your entire home no matter what your decorating tastes are like.

Ironically, even public restrooms have vanity mirrors, so you need to step your style up a bit when you choose the correct bathroom vanity mirror to show off your personal taste. Before you can choose the vanity mirror that will best fit in your restroom however, you need to determine the size you will need to make sure the mirror fits in place.

The wrong size bathroom vanity can throw off the entire balance of a room, so you need to pick a mirror that fits accordingly above sink in your bathroom. A standard role of thumb to follow is to size your mirror according to the size of your sink, choosing a slightly smaller mirror if you have a large sink, and a larger mirror if you have a small sink. The idea here is that you do not want to overstate either item, so you are in essence aiming for a delicate balance.

If you have a larger sink, a bathroom vanity that is smaller in size will allow you to add a few accessories that will bring out the trimming. For example, if you choose a wooden trimmed mirror, then small wooden potpourri holders will nicely bring the wood full circle while also adding a bit of a pleasant scent and taste to the room.

On the flip side, if you have a smaller sink, you do not want to leave the entire wall empty and blank. In fact, the same sized bathroom vanity will only make the room look emptier since it will draw attention to the open expanse. Therefore, you may find it appropriate to choose a mirror that is a few feet wider than the mirror.

Overall, once you get the sizing of your bathroom vanity correct, the only thing you have to consider is the trimming which is dependent on your theme. The mirror will demand attention on its own so long as it matches the overall theme of the bathroom, whether that is clean and sharp, or earthy and warm.
