Depending on the type of merchant account you are using, it is important for you to understand the various charges that are associated with a merchant account, so that you can choose a merchant account that suits your requirements.

Setup fees

The most basic charge associated with a merchant account is the setup fees, regular merchant accounts usually have a standard setup fees associated with them. The authorization fees is usually a small percent of the total amount of the transaction, in fact in many Asian countries merchants charge the customers an additional fee when a customer uses their credit card to make up for the authorization that the merchant has to pay. If the volume of your online transactions is going to be high, then you should consider a merchant account that charges a lower authorization fees.
