Producing boxshots and e-book covers is now a no brainer.

By: Mathew Petrenko

A nice wrapping leads to a good sale. If you would like to successfully distribute your ebooks or programs, pack them up. As the product is virtual, so is the package. There are three typical ways to create a virtual cover:

- Ordering it from a designer

- Grasping the nuts and bolts of Photoshop

- Using some specialized software

If you have a a company that can do it for you, the job will be a piece of cake. If the designer knows something about 3D, they will bill you quite a bit. Each new box shot or ebook cover will round up to $150. Using Photoshop is okay as long as you know how to work with it. To create everything nicely extra action scripts could be necessary that cost extra money. And remember the value of Photoshop: it will rob you of $600. A more straightforward third solution is to find yourself nice boxshot software. Starting from $15 you can get your hands on a solution that will satisfy your needs. There is obviously plenty room for choice. Actually, you may come across three types of software programs:

- Ready made templates that give no freedom

- Simple 3D rendering programs

- 3D with ray tracing

Selecting the first choice, you ensure that boxshots and e-book covers will look nicely, but the selection of modifications will be the limited by the templates provided. Introducing big changes will not come easy to the software box or ebook cover. Going for the simple 3D offered in the second option will result in unrealistic effects. It is not a problem to see that the picture is somewhat unrealistic. Going for 3D ray tracing will help you avoid such troubles. Special effects are calculated for each pixel. The resulting image will look cool. If you would like to have freedom and quality, you should employ the third sort of boxshot software. A great example of such software is Box Shot 3D. At 40 euros the solution is very affordable. It will assist you in making great images of your books and software, club cards and more. You can see some pictures underneath of ebook covers and software boxes. The shadows, reflections on the floor and on the objects proper could not be reproduced in Photoshop without special scripts. And few if any such offerings would allow you to produce something of high quality. The room for creativity is nearly absolute, modify whatever you wish. No software box or ebook cover should be created without Box Shot 3D. It will give your product a very cool wrapping. And appropriate packages will easily double sales. Go for Box Shot 3D and never regret it.
