The Paralegal career may be challenging but it is also rewarding for Paralegals who have adequate Paralegal training and the capacity to be thorough in the execution of their duties!If you are well trained and proficient in your duty as a Paralegal the challenges of the Paralegal career will pale into insignificance while the reward will mount all through your career. This article is to keep you who is interested in becoming a Paralegal informed that you must be well prepared by paraleal training and physical capability to handle your duties as well as a lawer should do his work:
As a Paralegal you are expected to be conversant with the law having obtained adequate training from an American Bar Association approved Paralegal institution. If you are the Paralegal head or the only Paralegal in a law firm, your duties will include the day to day management of the law firm. It is unknown to me that a lot of aspiring people jump into the Profession without adequate knowledge of what is really expected of them and the scope of Paralegal duties. You are expected to be able to do most of a lawyer's work except defending a client in court. You may be assigned the job of writing legal documents. Filing and indexing and the general management of a law firm is usually assigned to a Paralegal. Many a time a Paralegal is employed in such a position because their remuneration is lower than that of an attorney; or basically to assist an attorney where the work load is huge. You have to be hard working to be able to contain the pressure. However, the extra pay due you for the overtime work should be enough motivation to give your best. In the past most of the jobs Paralegals do today were done by lawyers, but with the upgrading of Paralegal training, firms have found it convenient to hire Paralegals than lawyers and save money. You have to be hard working to be able to contain the pressure. Government and Business offices such as Commercial firms, Insurance firms and even banks now employ Paralegals. For this reason you are expected to specialize in a particular Paralegal field of your choice in other to be qualified to work in that Paralegal field. For instance, a Military Paralegal should have been trained and passed both Military and war law courses to qualify as a Military Paralegal. If you desire advancement in your career as a Paralegal,then consider upgrading your training and get a certification from the appropriate Paralegal Association.
To conclude, you can see that the Paralegal is not just a mere lawyer's clerk as he was referred to in the past. Get proper training so as to acquit yourself well enough to be a proud Paralegal. The Paralegal profession has come a long way to gain the present respectable image and respect.
