By: Marria Sara

Connecticut has a humid continental climate, with seasonal extremes tempered by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. New England and the Northeast of the United States are famous for their brilliant fall colors tours. And so is Connecticut. As soon as autumn arrives there is a riot of colors that is a source of great enjoyment for residents and visitors to this region. There are plenty of ways to see the changing colors of leaves in Connecticut.

You can get a bird’s eye view of the vibrant colors of these leaves in a hot air balloon. Connecticut has over 20 hot air balloon companies that not just offer you this enjoyable ride but in some cases also a combined package of bed and breakfast accommodation with it. You can get a more luxurious treat with champagne balloon rides.

However, the most popular way to see the fall foliage in Connecticut is to enjoy cruises. Since it borders the Atlantic it is possible to take a sea-faring tour on one of the waterways in the state. There are a variety of cruises such as education tours, historical tours, and those for pure luxury. Some of these cruises last for multiple days.

Horse back riding is another great way to enjoy the nature of colored leaves. There are plenty of horse back riding expeditions that start year-round, and the autumn is certainly not too late in the year to enjoy the wonders of fall on horse back. It is even possible to reserve romantic rides and expeditions by moonlight.

Following the Connecticut Wine Trail is a great way to enjoy beautiful and fine wines. Grape stomping contest abound, and there are many wine tasting available. There are 14 vineyards along the trail, and it can be explored using a car or on a bike. The tradition of wine trails in the Northeast is alive and well in Connecticut, and offers a relaxing way to enjoy the fall season.

If you prefer to make your own way and explore the back roads, you can drive through Connecticut's beautiful rural countryside and see the trees in their full splendor. You can stay comfortably in one of the cozy bed-and-breakfast inns in the rural back roads. However, you must make reservations in advance because the inns are full during the autumn.

Do remember to enjoy the roadside dining during the fall foliage in Connecticut. The roadside small towns offer great and aplenty steak, seafood, New England delicacies and on the whole some awesome quaint dinners. The food is mostly fresh and organically grown.
