The drawbacks of wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing

By: DYLAN Sun

Although China occupies a leading position globally when it comes to wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing activities, yet it does not mean to say that it is all a bed of roses for wholesale multinational purchasing or global sourcing all the way. There do exist certain drawbacks as well for companies, organisations and individuals carrying out wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing deals with businesses within the country. Yet despite these challenges and drawbacks, wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing is on the rise substantially and there exist several reasons which overcome the negative aspects of such wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing as compared to the advantages which stand to be gained from the same.

One of the main drawbacks which get highlighted in some deals of wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing with the region is the concern for quality of goods produced or procured under the deals of wholesale multinational purchasing or global sourcing. It is obvious since the long geographical distances involved in wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing do leave room for chance in the quality control aspect of the deal. The concerned party has to forego direct supervision in case of wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing which might be carried out in totally different part of the world. But this does not mean to say that carrying out wholesale multinational purchasing or global sourcing always leads to deterioration in quality; rather most of the time it is the reverse since the company undertaking to fulfil the order placed under wholesale multinational purchasing or global sourcing deal, would like to give its best shot and not compromise in quality at all.

Another disadvantage of wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing could be that since the manufacturing activity is taking place in a country other than the parent company, any change or upheaval in that country in terms of political, economic or social shift could entirely change the equation which could affect the wholesale multinational purchasing and global sourcing deals. Say for example if a US firm is buying wholesale multinational purchasing or doing global sourcing from China, a sudden change in government or their policies could affect the deal which could be either beneficial or detrimental for the deal.

Hence we see that despite the few challenges that exist in terms of wholesale multinational purchasing deals and global sourcing activities with countries such as China, the trend for the same is on the rise due to the numerous advantages such as cost savings associated with the same.
