The most outstanding region in the Eastern Europe

By: Mathew Petrenko

Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. There are 24 provinces which named “oblast” are comprised into this country, but there are also 2 urban areas which are considered to be separate districts: the metropolis of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol. Ukraine became a semi-presidential republic just four years ago. This is the result of an orange revolution of 2004. The current type of power is more democratic that the previous one. Now the country is ruled not by a single person, but by several branches of authority. Ukraine has a common border with 10 countries. These countries are Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia. There are 2 mountain systems in Ukraine: Carpathian and Crimea, Crimea mountains are younger and lower. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and divide it into two nearly identical parts. Thanks to the river Ukraine gets the most of its hydroelectric energy. The winters thanks to the soft climate are not very cold. It snows often and most rivers become covered by ice. The summers are rainy with temperatures often going about 35 Centigrade. Nevertheless, the weather is dry and hot most of the summertime.

Thanks to favorable conditions, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and significantly developed agriculture. Actually, Ukraine is believed to be an agricultural country that constantly exports sugar, corn, vegetables and other produces to more than 100 countries. Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded nearly in the 5th century and has got long and interesting history. It started as a small trading town and evolved into the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern part of Europe. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and completely demolished, it lost its eminence for a long time. In the 20th century Kiev was the metropolis of Ukrainian Soviet Republic which was included into the Soviet Union. It was a good chance for Kiev to become a prominent city again. Nowadays the population of Kiev is about 3 million citizens. According to the censuses the population is rapidly growing year after year. We can not even approximately count the amount of various ethnic groups which are included into that amazing city. Not less than 120 ethnic groups live here. In the second part of 20th century its population increased considerably as a result of improvement of real estate building in this city. After the independence there created modern condominiums, chic restaurants and five star hotels.

Ukraine economics gains power after the time of post Soviet troubles. Today Ukraine is quite respectable country that is known not as a part of the Soviet Union, but as autonomous country. All the countries comprised into WTO are pleasantly inviting Ukraine to become a participant of this organization.
