Tips For Safe Indoor Tanning

By: Betty P Davis

It is possible to tan safely indoors, even though there is still some controversy about it. As long as you limit your exposure to the UV rays and follow other guidelines it can be a very enjoyable experience for you. It is also going to be more convenient than outdoor tanning. Many people find this process improves their mood and makes them feel better about themselves.

Before you start tanning indoors, you need to be aware of some safety issues. This way you can decide for yourself if indoor tanning may be a good choice for you. Research has shown UV rays from tanning bulbs can increase a person's chances of skin cancer. You definitely want to protect yourself from such circumstances.

Pay close attention to how your body reacts to an indoor tanning session. There will be an emergency shut off on each piece of equipment. Make sure you know where it is. Should you feel light headed, nauseated, ore extremely hot while tanning you should access that safety button immediately.

The issue of indoor tanning while pregnant continues to be one of debate. There is no evidence to really confirm that it can harm the baby. However, there is no information to ensure that it won't either. Therefore, most women refrain from tanning while when they discover they are pregnant. It just isn't worth risking the health of their baby to get better skin.

A tan is nowhere near as important as the overall health of the mother or the baby. You will find doctors as well as individuals in society have different opinions about tanning during pregnancy though. Almost all doctors are in agreement when it comes to tanning and prescription drugs though. The UV rays both outdoors and indoors can affect how potent they are.

You need to be concerned about the sanitary aspects of the tanning facility as well. All of the areas of it that have been in contact with a customer need to be wiped down with a clean towel. If you want to find out the process at a particular tanning salon, don't be afraid to ask. They should be very willing to share this information with you.

Make sure you wear eye protection that fits well while tanning indoors. The UV rays from indoor tanning bulbs can cause damage to your eyes over time. If you use such facilities on a regular basis, you should invest in your own. That way you can be sure they offer you the protection you need.

Pay close attention to the changes in the temperature as well. Your body may not be able to adjust. I became extremely ill once due to tanning on a cold rainy day. The changes from the outdoor temperature, to the tanning bed, and then back into the cold was too much in such a short span of time. I ended up with the chills and feeling like I was going to pass out.
