Training and Support Can Eliminate Common Complaints of Business Accounting Software Applications

By: Kingston J. Amadan

Business accounting software suites are a godsend on some levels, but with the capabilities inherent in most modern developments, the complexities can be overwhelming. One of the most often encountered problems centers around their unforgiving rigidity. If a data input error occurs at an early stage of report generation but remains undiscovered until later, simply correction and recalculation is rarely an option. Considering most accounting software systems are extremely complex and with steep learning curves, the result can be maddening for an accountant.

Functionality and usability are additional areas where most accounting software solutions fall short. They may offer the ability to automate several of the most common accounting tasks, but fail to make it feasible for someone without prior experience to manage doing so. For this problem and the aforementioned, the best solution is to properly train employees to navigate and operate these comprehensive software solutions. But how does one accomplish that when everyone on staff is unfamiliar with the product?

Software distributorship are in existence for a reason, and that reason is to not only sell software solutions, but to implement them and bring employees up to speed as well. Most distributors offer a variety of training options, from two day intensives and workshops at their facilities to staff-wide on-site training. The expense of training a small staff is minimal in comparison with the potential loss of man-hours that is likely when employees are left on their own to figure things out. An employer wouldn’t dream of handing an employee a book or CD set on “How to speak Russian” on Friday and expect fluency by Monday, yet many do so unknowingly by failing to arrange for proper accounting software training.

Though any training is far better than no training at all, staff members may still find that performing certain functions at the advanced levels extremely difficult. For this reason, phone or online support is another way in which employers can provide their staff with the information they need to make the most of company assets. Support programs are relatively inexpensive as the burden of employing product specialists is spread out over multiple companies. Many distributors provide instant access support for minimal expense to their clients, and smart business owners take advantage of it.
