Valentine's Day: How To Re-establish A Stale Relationship

By: Rick London

Even Ozzie and Harriett if not the Cleavers, got bored with each other as the years passed. Of course we still love our signicant other but we are fed up with the day to day routine. Don't just rekindle the flame, or fan the flames, douse it with deisel fuel and make it burn bright! Valentine's Day as a way to show our love, a reason to try something different, and then make it a habit, a new way of life to change the parameters and depth of the relationship. I know from many interviews with couples that these ideas work and are a blast to do.

Make sure you touch each other. Whether it is going dancing or giving each other a "private gift certificate" for a mutual massage that night. Don't just write the certificates, do it. Or really go dancing, slow dancing, or both. Hold hands and walk down the sidewalk. A public show of affection, even a minor one, can help reconfirm what you both have known all along. You may, at times, get on each others nerve, but the love is still there.

Make dinner a celebration. Conjure the most exotic dish you can make. If you are not a born-cook, find a recipe and go by it. The spicier the better. Why not some tandoori chicken or French meal in a wonderful creme sauce. If you don't cook much, find a cookbook or download a recipe from the net, for for this romantic occasion. It is worth it. Don't tell your partner or spouse that you are planning it, only that you are going to cook because it is Valentine's day. They may be expecting a t-bone steak but this time try an exotic spicy ethnic dish, perhaps some wine, and candlelight with soft music in the background. If you feel uncomfortable in the kitchen, make a formal invitation to dress up and go out to an elegant little French bistro or Italian restaurant. Just make it fun and different than the regular routine meal. Watch her (or him) smile in amazement. Send a surprise gourmet lunch to your loved one's workplace. Order it over the phone, pay by credit card and send it from "A secret admirer". When your mate reveals the surprise, just smile and say, "I love you, honey." (or whatever term of endearment you use or used to use).

Try dressing sexy for the night. Especially underneat. If you are a woman, try a sleek thong rather than panties, and maybe a nice negligee over it (or no negligee at all, just the thong under your clothing). If you are a male, try some sexy boxers or bikini shorts. If you both love to laugh but forgot how, put on something funny and sexy underneath. Of course, reveal this after your romantic meal while the soft music is still playing. There are several online stores that carry this kind of merchandise. Watch how fast this can bring back those old almost-forgotten passionate feelings. A word of caution, it can be a bit nerve-wracking at first, especially if this is not the norm. But not to worry, that passes rather quickly (if it happens at all)

It may not sound like much, but a few of these little things can work magic to fuel the fire of an old relationship that feels stifling. Just try a few and see what happens. You will want to do it again and again, even when it is not Valentine's Day. And that's a good thing.
