What Attracts Me To A Restaurant?

By: Patricia Farnham

I love to eat out, and I do so more than I probably should. However, I have a very busy lifestyle and I really don't enjoy cooking. Once a week I go out to lunch with two of my best friends. We meet for an hour or so in order to catch up on things because we all have jobs and families that take up most of our time. This is our one piece of time to really stay in touch with each other and do something for ourselves.

There are some restaurants in the area that we go to on a regular basis and others that we skip altogether. There are many different reasons for this. Some of the best restaurants we go to have it all together - they offer outstanding food, an excellent atmosphere, quality service, and fair prices. These places are often full when we try to go out because everyone else has the same thought about them.

All of these other issues are part of eating out in any restaurant. If I have had two bad experiences in any given location, then I don't return. I am sure many other people aren't going back either. Hopefully the owner of the restaurant will implement necessary changes before it is too late. However, I don't want to waste my money by going there again unless someone I trust tells me that things have significantly improved.

It is important for restaurant owner's to be aware of such information. With so many of them failing within months of first opening, they need to be able to identify with the needs of the consumers. It simply isn't enough to offer a great selection of foods. People go out to restaurants for a great time, not just to have a meal.

I want to go to a restaurant and feel confident that every one of my needs are going to be addressed while I am in there. There are times when it doesn't happen though and I am disappointed. If I feel like it is a one time thing then I will give them another chance. However, if I have a bad dinning experience at any restaurant twice then I don't go back. I figure there are too many other places out there that consistently offer my a great experience for me to take my chances on it a third time.

I enjoy traveling a great deal as well so I get to try out new restaurants. I will often base my decision on what I am in the mood for. Sometimes I am attracted to those that are a chain operation. I know exactly what I will be getting and I know I am going to enjoy it. However, I have had experiences at these types of chain restaurants that I wasn't happy with so there is no guarantee.

Millions of people use the internet every day to look for information. I use it to look for information about various restaurants. Some times I will eat at a particular one just because of the reviews I read online about it. It can be fun to travel and try out these places that others give such rave reviews. I too post my experiences with restaurants as I want to share that type of information with others as well.

There is too much competition out there for restaurants not to cover all the basis elements. Offering a delicious menu is just one aspect of the business to focus on. There are many other pieces of the overall puzzle that have to be in place for it all to work out. I love restaurants and eating out, but I will only be spending my time and money in those establishments that have plenty to offer me.
