In my opinion the main problem that so many fail to grasp is that spell check only recognizes the spelling of a word, it cannot recognize the context that a word is used in. I personally do not know how rife the problem may be in languages other than English, (as I speak only English) but as the English language has the largest vocabulary/number of words, then of course problems will arise.
